Have you decided yet on what you will give for the Stamp Out Hunger food drive? I’m sure your letter carrier has left the yellow bag in your mail box. I got mine.

High impact proteins are always better choices than carbs.  Carbs cause fluctuations in blood sugar (and mood) when consumed without enough protein, while proteins stabilize blood sugar (and mood).

By using coupons, you can contribute a lot.

You can also drop off food at your local QFC on Saturday.

A random act of coupon kindness

A random act of coupon kindness

I was in target the other day and I had a ton of coupons for the GE Compact Florescent Lightbulbs. And I mean TONS!

When I turned the shopping cart to go down the light bulb aisle, I couldn’t get thru; there were people standing there. Since I didn’t want to disturb the lady and man blocking the isle (how is that word spelled anyway), I parked my cart in front of the end-cap. The two shoppers looked much older than I am but not quite elderly and I didn’t feel comfortable disturbing them; they were both concentrating so hard. So I waited, pretending to be looking at something else.

A few minutes later, the man left. It was just me and the cute little grandmotherly-looking lady.

I noticed that she had coupons in her hand and was looking at the bulbs. I said ‘excuse me’ to get her attention. Then I offered her some of my coupons explaining that the bulbs were on sale for $1.99 and the coupon was for $2 so they would be free! And since she was already buying the CFL bulbs with the coupon she had, this was a product she was familiar with anyway.

She was kind of speechless for a minute; amazed I had so many coupons. And even more amazed I was giving them to her!

We chit-chatted for a few seconds as I gave her the amount of coupons she requested. She was soooo happy! And so was I!

I left target with 12 (free) light bulbs in my (reusable) bag and a smile on my face, knowing that I had literally “brightened” someone’s day!

Charity Surah Al Mu’miminun 60

Charity Surah Al Mu’miminun 60

Source:  Those Who Give That Which They Giver with Their Hearts Full of Fear http://abdurrahmanorg.wordpress.com/

October 14, 2009

Bismillaah Al-Hamdulillaah was Salaatu was Salaamu alaa Rasoolillah

Concerning Allaah’s statement (what means): And those who give that (their charity) which they give (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts full of fear (whether their alms and charities, etc., have been accepted or not), because they are sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning). (Al-Mu’minun 23:60)

Imam Ahmad recorded from `A’ishah: I said: “O Messenger of Allah, And those who give that which they give with their hearts full of fear… Are these the ones who steal and commit Zina and drink alcohol while fearing Allah?” The Messenger of Allah replied: No, O daughter of Abu Bakr. O daughter of As-Siddiq, the one who prays, fast and gives in charity, fearing Allah.” This was recorded by At-Tirmidhi.

Ibn Abi Hatim recorded something similar in which the Prophet (salallaahu ‘alaihiwasallam) said:

No, O daughter of As-Siddiq, they are the ones who pray and fast and give in charity while fearing that it will not be accepted from them. It is these who hasten in the good deeds.

The Salaf worked diligently in perfecting their actions and making them faultless, then after that, they showed great concern for acceptance of their actions. They did this because they feared that their actions would be rejected. They are those who gave what was incumbent upon them while their hearts were in a state of fear. It is reported that ‘Ali bin Abi Taleb said:

Be more concerned that your actions are accepted than your concern of performing the action itself.
